Job Title:            Volunteer Coordinator, Douglas County District Court
Hours:                15 – 20 hours/week, $20.99 / hour, no benefits
Location:            Douglas County District Court, Legal Self-Help Center
Reports to:         Director of Legal Self-Help Center

Position Overview:

The Volunteer Coordinator will oversee the orientations, onboarding, scheduling and tracking of all District Court volunteers.  In addition, this role oversees the day-to-day operations of the Legal Self-Help Center’s volunteer program, providing supervision, training, and support to a team of volunteers who assist with self-represented litigants. This position ensures the smooth operation of the space during the morning hours, keeps volunteer records, and helps improve volunteer engagement and development. The foundational work of the program has already been established; this role is focused on sustaining, refining, and growing with what is currently in place.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Volunteer Supervision & Support
    • Supervise volunteer work onsite during the morning hours (9:00 AM – 12:30 PM).
    • Support volunteers during shifts, answering questions and debriefing as needed.
    • Ensure there are weekly check-ins with volunteers to keep a trauma-informed, supportive environment.
  • Training and Onboarding
    • Lead weekly orientation sessions and onboarding for incoming volunteers.
    • Ensure volunteer training materials are kept up to date and accessible.
    • Assist in updating training modules based on volunteer feedback and evolving court procedures.
  • Scheduling & Tracking
    • Maintain and manage the volunteer schedule.
    • Track hours, tasks, and availability of each volunteer using internal systems.
    • Provide documentation as needed for reports and evaluations.
  • Volunteer Engagement & Recognition
    • Implement strategies to keep volunteers engaged, appreciated, and informed.
    • Coordinate events for volunteers to demonstrate our appreciation and encourage self-care.
    • Monitor volunteer retention and recommend improvements as necessary.
Qualifications:
  • Experience working with volunteers or coordinating teams.
  • Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to maintain a calm, trauma-informed presence in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to equity, accessibility, and respectful service delivery.
  • Familiarity with legal services, court systems, or nonprofit operations.
