The Kansas judicial branch seeks an experienced IT Server engineer responsible for the design, installation, administration and optimization of the server environment and related components to achieve high performance of the various business applications.  Ensures the availability of
client / server applications, configures all new implementations, and develops processes/procedures for ongoing management of the server environment.

Job Duties:
  • Design, configure, and maintain Windows Server environments.
  • Manage Active Directory, Azure AD, DNS, and related directory services.
  • Implement and maintain virtualization solutions using VMware, Hyper-V, and other cloud-based platforms.
  • Perform server performance tuning, monitoring, and capacity planning.
  • Develop and enforce server security policies, including system hardening and vulnerability management.
  • Support and maintain backup and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Manage IT security certificates (SSL Cert) and access control mechanisms.
  • Automate server administration tasks using PowerShell and other scripting tools.
  • Collaborate with Network, Security, and Application teams to ensure system stability and security.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshoot server-related issues.
  • Document configurations, procedures, and system changes.
  • Administer and support Azure services, including virtual machines, storage, networking, and security configurations.
  • Monitor and optimize Azure resources to ensure cost efficiency and performance.
  • Implement and maintain Azure governance policies and compliance frameworks.
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Education and Experience:

A bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information systems or a related field. (Education requirement can be substituted with equivalent work experience).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Seven years of experience in server administration, with a focus on advanced configuration, optimization, and troubleshooting of server hardware and software.
  • Proficiency in managing complex server environments with multiple operating systems and versions.
  • Understanding of server security principles and experience implementing security measures.
  • Experience with server monitoring, performance tuning, and capacity planning.
  • Knowledge of backup and recovery procedures for servers and data.
  • Experience implementing and managing patch management processes to ensure servers are up-to-date and secure.
  • Experience participating in server deployment projects and migrations.
  • Experience with server monitoring, performance tuning, and capacity planning.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to diagnose and resolve complex server issues.
  • Leadership skills with the ability to mentor and guide team members, fostering a culture of collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Ability to configure and maintain server roles and services, such as Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and file services.
  • Familiarity with server automation and scripting tools such as PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
  • Certification demonstrates foundational skills in server hardware, software, and troubleshooting such as Microsoft Certified: Windows Server, Linux Professional, or CompTIA Server+ Certification is preferred but not required.
