IT Server Administrator is responsible for the design, installation, administration and optimization of the computer servers, e.g., Windows, UNIX, Macintosh, LINUX, AIX, Citrix, Solaris, etc. and related components to achieve high performance of the various business applications. Ensures the availability of client/server applications, configures all new implementations, and develops processes/procedures for ongoing management of the server environment
This position is also responsible for the deployment, configuration, and ongoing administration of virtual servers running Windows Server and other operating systems. This includes routine maintenance such as patching, updates, security hardening, and user access management through Active Directory and Entra ID. The administrator is also responsible for the configuration and maintenance of the M365 environment to include Exchange, SharePoint, Teams, and other services.
In the Azure environment, the administrator assists with provisioning and managing virtual machines, storage resources, virtual networks, and applying governance policies. They help monitor and optimize performance, ensure cost-effective resource usage, and support the implementation of cloud security best practices and compliance standards.
The role also serves as the secondary support for backup and disaster recovery operations in cloud environments using tools such as Azure Backup. The administrator also assists with server availability monitoring and performance tuning using native tools like Azure ARC and Log Analytics, as well as third-party solutions.
Automation is an important aspect of the role. The administrator will use scripting tools such as PowerShell or Bash to streamline administrative tasks and contribute to the development of infrastructure-as-code templates where applicable.
Required education and experience:
Education: Associate degree in computer science, information technology, or related field. (Education requirement can be substituted with equivalent work experience).

Minimum of three years of experience in server administration, including installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of server hardware and software.
Understanding of server security principles and experience implementing security measures.
Experience with diagnosing and resolving server-related issues.
Experience in implementing and managing patch management processes to ensure servers are up-to-date and secure.
Proficiency in managing operating systems such as Windows Server and/or Linux/Unix.

Experience participating in server deployment projects and migrations
Ability to configure and maintain server roles and services, such as Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and file services.
Knowledge of backup and recovery procedures for servers and data.
Familiarity with server automation and scripting tools such as PowerShell, Bash, or Python
Certification Preference:
Certification demonstrating foundational skills in server hardware, software, and troubleshooting such as Microsoft Certified: Windows Server, Linux Professional, or CompTIA Server+ Certification is preferred
